Alpacas are a wonderful animal to raise and breed. They are fun to watch, gentle and docile to handle, and less costly to feed than other animals such as horses. Their feet have pads like a dog’s, so they are gentler on pasture than cows or horses. The income produced is from shearing (once a year, usually in the spring) and sales of some of the herd.
There are several tax advantages available to those raising alpacas, which can reduce (sometimes substantially) your tax burden. We would be thrilled to help you understand these and see if they can be integrated into your financial planning. Our farm is large enough to board (or “agist”) alpacas. This provides the potential for you to own the animals and take some of the tax breaks, while leaving the everyday chores to us. Drop an e-mail for more information.

We are a small husband and wife ran farm about 20 miles west of Fort Wayne. We keep our herd numbers around 10-12 to have personal knowledge of each animal.
We got into the alpaca industry first for the love of animals, second for the desire to learn about fiber arts, and third because we felt this wonderful, young industry had such potential. Alpacas produce one of the world’s finest, most luxurious, natural fibers.
We believe in breeding for healthy, happy animals with proper conformation and the best fiber qualities possible such as fineness, density, and crimp.

We raise our alpacas on our 40 acre farm north of Terre Haute in Southwestern Indiana. We breed for quality with premier bloodlines which include Snowmass Legacy Gold, Snowmass Amore, NWA, LTD Accoyo’s Goldsmith, Dom Lucilio, Providence Rennes, Royal Fawn, Finesse, Iceman, and Peruvian Don Julio. Because we are a small farm, our animals get individual attention, and are friendly and comfortable with people.
We began with a high quality foundation herd, and today we continue to breed our females to high quality males. We love to show off our animals. We show them in competitions and also enjoy showing them to friends, customers, school classes and club groups.
We produce our own orchard grass hay, and have it tested each year. We store it in our large hayloft. We keep our animals cool in the summer with large fans in the barn which operate on a thermostat, and timed water sprayers in the pastures to cool their tummies.

We raise our animals on 34 acres in the gently rolling hills of South Central Indiana. Our farm is an older farm named after the historic schoolhouse in which we live. We come to alpaca farming from diverse backgrounds. David works in municipal water distribution and Karen is involved in education at the elementary level.
We have a lovely herd of alpacas. We are concentrating on breeding for the qualities we see as necessary in the future fleece market: density with softness. We have many award-winning bloodlines and select our own and outside males for breeding. Our females are chosen with an eye to mothering ability and milk production, as well as, physical soundness for a long and productive life.
We enjoy sharing our knowledge of the animals with visitors. Please contact us if you or your group would like to see our farm. Whether you’re just curious or seriously considering investing in alpacas- we would like to meet you.

Stormy Acres Alpacas is home to Joe and Patti Hodge, 2 border collies, 3 barn cats, 8 llamas and a growing herd of alpacas, we are located in mid-southern Indiana among the small town of Whiteland, easily accessible from I-65. We began our adventure with alpacas after visiting several farms, gathering information, and attending a hands on seminar, where we learned to trim toe nails, yea! At this point there was no turning back we were in love with these beauitful, gentle creatures… We purchased our first alpacas, 2 bred females and a young male alpaca in July of 1996, before the end of the year we also added a gentle gelded llama as a guard.
We are a small farm continually striving to perfect the quality of our fiber and conformation of the alpacas, breeding and training our animals to ensure a very handler-friendly animal with a gentle personality.
Our herd consists of a variaty of beautiful colors including our personal color favorite the different shades of gray.
We enjoy going to and showing our animals in 3 to 4 Alpaca shows a year. It is wonderful after a long cold winter to get to socialize with all of our alpaca friends and of course the main topic of discussion is our beloved animals.

“Preserving a Fine, Rare Breed of Suri Alpacas”
Welcome to The Triple Z Alpaca Farm which was derived from the road on which we live…”000 Rd.” in Decatur, IN. We are located about 20 miles south of Ft. Wayne, IN. Where we started, in 2004, with two, full Peruvian, females and have slowly but, surely grown to 15 Alpacas.
We have tried to improve the quality of our animals through selective breeding to award winning, ACCOYO, herdsires. Some of the genetics we have injected into our herd are…Baron, Torbio, Rockstar, Magnum, FSA’s Somethin’s UP, Accoyo Belmonte, Bruxo, Membrillo, Kalvin, Jackpot, Crown Royal, Uribe, Don Quixote, & accoyo Ramillo! Whew….
We believed that since we didn’t have a large herd we needed to breed to FULL ACCOYO. And, the suri was chosen because they are a fine but, rare breed with lustrous, fiber…not to mention the fact that we could be involved in preserving a special, rare breed. We love the luster factor because of the sheen that it gives the final product.
If you want to breed suri alpacas and, build on good genetics, we have them in any one of our alpacas. As we grow, we are very excited about building a top quality herd. And, with the help of the “Good Shepherd” we can. Hope you enjoy this site…God Bless.

Our farm started in 2001 with only a log home on 4 acres. Everything needed for raising alpacas was built from the ground up – 2 barns, fencing and gates, seeding pastures, a farm shop … the works! Needless to say, it was quite an adventure. Raising the animals as a small business was appealing to us because the end product from the animal, soft and luxurious wool referred to as “fiber”, is obtained without harm. The appeal to raise “green” livestock with the added bonus of a naturally sustainable end product was exactly what we were searching for. Not to mention the fiber is harvested with no harm to the animal.
We view the alpaca business as a two-fold opportunity – the first being the breeding and sales of animals – and the second the start of a cottage business from the fiber. Since 2002 we have been selling yarn and finished products using our own fiber through our farm shop, festivals and events around the Michiana area.
Currently we have ~ 30 animals with several cria on the way in 2011! We love to talk alpaca and invite you to come visit our farm. Learn about alpacas, fiber and a rewarding lifestyle with alpacas!

Founded in 2006, Whispering Pines is nestled in the wooded hills of Brown County Indiana about three miles from Brown County State Park. We are not your “traditional” farm in that many of our pastures are hilly – the alpacas love it, but we huff and puff getting up and down.
We sell not only Alpacas but many products made from Alpaca as well. The most popular items sold in our farm store are Alpaca yarn and the complete line of Extremetm Alpaca Socks.
We welcome farm tours by prospective buyers as well as by people interested in seeing and/or learning more about the animals themselves. Farm tours and getting answers to your questions are particularly important for individuals considering the Alpaca lifestyle. These curious animals really enjoy our younger visitors i.e. children. We ask that, whenever possible, individuals call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a farm visit.

After considerable research (ok, I am a CPA… by definition I was going to review this investment thoroughly) Jack & I purchased the beginning of our herd and brought them to their new homes. Anita dreaming of living on a farm and Jack being raised on a farm has defined our endeavor with enthusiasm and reality. One reality we agree on is “we continue to grow more enamored with these animals every day”.
We heard many times as we were exploring alpacas about “The Alpaca Lifestyle”. We now understand what
that means! Although we currently both work outside the farm full-time, the stress relief offered by the animals and simple farm chores after a day at the office is amazing.
We look forward to sharing our farm, our animals and the Alpaca adventure with you!
